Home Minister Lekhak: Police Bill Set to Pass in Upcoming Parliamentary Session

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that the government plans to pass the much-anticipated Police Bill in the next session of the Federal Parliament.
Speaking at a tribute ceremony held today at the Police Headquarters to mark the 69th Police Day, Lekhak said that the bill aims to replace the existing Police Act of 2012. He explained that the new bill will focus on the specialisation of police services and include provisions for the welfare and benefits of police personnel.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs is committed to presenting this bill to the House of Representatives as soon as possible," he said. "Once it becomes law, I believe it will significantly advance the interests of Nepal Police and meet long-standing expectations."
In his address, Lekhak also honoured the contributions of police officers who lost their lives or were injured in the line of duty, saying their sacrifices would be highly valued.
He further noted that the government had swiftly completed transitional justice laws after its formation, including the Truth and Reconciliation Act and laws concerning the investigation of disappeared persons.
