Kathmandu – Journalists Navin Dhungana and Yuvraj Kandel are sent to jail after being found guilty of contempt of court. They are currently held at the Central Jail in Jagannathdewal.
Following the Supreme Court's decision, Dhungana announces on Facebook that he respects the ruling. He states, “In honour of the respected Supreme Court’s decision, my publisher and your favourite presenter, Yuvraj Kandel, and I have been sent to the Central Jail in Jagannathdewal.”
However, Dhungana expresses his determination to return to journalism once he is released, saying, “Dear readers and listeners, we will come back to write news again. We are born to report news, and we will never stray from our duty as journalists.”
Dhungana is the executive editor of the online news platform 'Sidhakura,' while Kandel serves as the publisher and presenter. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha and a panel of nine judges, sentenced Rajkumar Timilsina to six months in prison for recording controversial audio. Dhungana and Kandel each received a three-month sentence as well. However, the ruling states that if they apologise, they will only need to serve seven days.
Additionally, they are each fined 5,000 rupees.
