New Corona Virus: What will Happen in Nepal?

Kathmandu. The UK was hit hard by the rapid spread of the coronavirus infection. Countries struggling to cope with the epidemic are concerned after similar viruses were found in the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, and France.

Considered a new form of Covid-19, the virus is said to be 70 percent more contagious than its predecessor.

But scientists have not said anything about the impact it will have. The World Health Organization (WHO) also said it was too early to say.

A study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) entitled “Implications of Emerging SARS Covid to Variant” found that the new type of coronavirus could spread rapidly with mutations in the structure of the virus. According to the CDC, scientists are engaged in further research. But so far no new facts have been found on whether it will make you seriously ill or increase your risk of death.

Public health experts in the UK have called on other countries to be more vigilant, saying children and young people are more affected by the virus. The discovery of a new type of virus has raised concerns about what will happen in Nepal, as in other parts of the world.

What will happen in Nepal?

Like the coronavirus, this new species may have arrived in Nepal, say, public health experts. But since there is no genetic study in Nepal, it is difficult to say for sure.

Resort Unit Coordinator of Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital, Dr. Sher Bahadur sees two possibilities for this new type of virus to enter again.

First, immigration from the UK has now stopped. If any of the people who came to Nepal from the UK in the month of December have this virus, it may have spread to Nepal.

Second, the number of passengers coming to Nepal from Europe via India is higher, they can also move from there.

But even if the virus has come in this way, the infection will not be found immediately. Explains again. According to him, in the last two months in the UK, this new type of coronavirus has been known to infect many people. On top of that, Nepal has stopped complying with public health standards, and the government has stopped testing, contact tracing, and keeping infected in isolation.

“If we start forgetting political slogans and rallies every day, it cannot be said that it will not be too late to stop the spread of the virus,” he said. Says again.

Therefore, the nature of the coronavirus in Nepal should be found out by gene sequencing, he said.

Infectious disease specialist Dr. Prabhat officials say that the new species of the virus may not have entered Nepal from the UK.

“It is normal for the virus to change its structure after a long-term epidemic,” he said. Officials say, “But the spread of the British virus is unlikely to reach Nepal.”

He also gives two reasons for this.

First, the arrival of passengers coming to Nepal from the UK has been stopped since December 22.

Second, the gene of coronavirus found in Nepal is similar to that of India.

The Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) had concluded that the nature of the virus found in Nepal was similar to the virus spread in India and Saudi Arabia after conducting genetic studies by collecting 15 samples from across the country in June.

A genetic study was performed by gene sequencing about seven months after the coronary artery infection was confirmed in Nepal. Although the study is not old and complete, it has confirmed that the coronavirus seen in Nepal is not from a European country. The official explains. He argues that a new species of the virus is more likely to enter from India than from the UK.

“If the British virus did not reach Nepal at that time, it would not be easy for it to return to its current state,” the official said. It’s important to do research. ”

Public health expert Dr. Sharad Vanta, on the other hand, says that there is a possibility of a new virus. “Even if the traffic is stopped now, there are still a lot of people who entered Nepal from there before December 22,” he says.

According to Ramesh Kumar KC, Director General of the Immigration Department, 263 people have come to Nepal from the UK since December 16, out of which 96 were British, 2 were Indian and the rest were Nepali. This statistic could be a threat to Nepal. Explains again. “So we have to do gene sequencing from time to time,” he said.

Public health expert Dr. Vanta also says that there is a possibility that the virus seen in Nepal will change the structure or a new species of virus seen in the UK will be seen in Nepal. Because there is no biological or geographical reason why this virus does not come to Nepal. So we have to be careful, he says, “we have to comply with public health standards and the government should not stop testing now.”

Also, those who traveled from the UK or those who were with them tested positive for coronavirus. Explains again. It determines which species the virus belongs to and the strategy to fight the virus accordingly. ‘It’s time to be vigilant,’ says Dr. “The state should not be negligent in gene sequencing and the public should not neglect public health safety standards,” he said.

According to public health experts, gene sequencing should also be done to eliminate the vaccine used against the infectious virus.

Experts say that when the nature of the virus is discovered and vaccinated, the results will be better.

“The vaccine used in the United States may not be suitable in Nepal,” he said. “Gene sequencing is important not only for vaccine selection but also for understanding the true nature of the epidemic,” he said.
