Bardiya. A woman sitting on the back of a motorcycle in Bardiya National Park has been killed by a tiger. Nandakala Thapa, 52, of Kawwapuri in Lamkichuha Municipality-4 of Kailali was killed by a tiger on Friday evening in Amreni-Chisapani section of Bardiya National Park on the East-West Highway. Sitting on the back of her son Santosh’s motorcycle, she was walking home via Kohalpur.
Chief Conservation Officer of the park Bishnu Shrestha said that the incident took place near Ghumna Bridge at around 9 pm. “After the tiger took his mother away, Santosh, who was fighting on a motorcycle, called the security personnel,” he said.
This is the second time in two decades that a tiger has killed a motorcyclist in one place. Earlier, in the year 2058 BS, the director of Sheetal Chalachitra Mandir in Kailali Lamki was killed.
Army patrols have been stepped up in the area since Friday’s incident and two-wheelers and pedestrians have been banned indefinitely.
