Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to impose a complete ban on smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs within the metropolitan area.
Mayor Balen Shah made this announcement while presenting the policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/82.
Previously, the federal government had already directed local authorities across the country to prohibit smoking and tobacco products in public places.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration had instructed all 753 local levels across the country to enforce the ban on smoking and tobacco products in public places. However, many have not implemented it. Now, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City will also enforce this ban.
Mayor Balen Shah also mentioned that the use of junk food will be discouraged. The metropolis will make necessary arrangements to ensure the quality and hygiene of food products entering the metropolitan area.
He further stated that the registration process for healthcare institutions within the metropolis will be made information technology-based. Targeted programs will also be introduced for multidimensional urban poverty alleviation.
