kathmandu | Today marks the final day for applying the Tika and Jamara as part of the Dashain celebrations in Nepal. Even today, people are receiving blessings in the form of Nawadurga's offerings, with Tika and Jamara.
According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, both the fourteenth day of the lunar fortnight (Chaturdashi) and the full moon (Purnima) fall today, making this the last day to receive Tika and Jamara this year.
The committee also notes that Kojagrat Purnima falls today, as the Chaturdashi began at sunrise and the Purnima at midnight. During Kojagrat Purnima, people stay awake throughout the night and worship Goddess Mahalaxmi. The formal conclusion of Dashain will be on the 1st of Kartik.
The practice of applying Tika and Jamara started on Vijaya Dashami, with blessings being distributed as the sacred offerings of Nawadurga, beginning from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada through to Nawami.
