less than a month of the agreement, these patients received outpatient (OPD) services, including cancer screenings and follow-ups.
kathmandu : Following the expansion of cancer treatment services in Karnali Province, 103 patients have already benefited. This service was introduced after an agreement between Karnali Provincial Hospital in Surkhet and BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan in early Bhadra.
Within less than a month of the agreement, these patients received outpatient (OPD) services, including cancer screenings and follow-ups, according to Dr. Shivji Paudel, Director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital. Patients, including those who have been receiving cancer treatment for over ten years, have now visited Surkhet Provincial Hospital to access the extended services.
A team of doctors, led by Dr. Umesh Nepal, has been providing these services to cancer patients. The expansion aligns with the health ministry's initiative, as Health Minister Pradeep Paudel prioritized cancer treatment service expansion during his public announcement on 27th of Saun.
Previously, cancer treatment was available only in three hospitals under federal jurisdiction. This expansion marks a significant step toward improving healthcare access in Karnali Province.
