Nepal Electricity Authority Fined NPR 100 Million for Failing to Export Power to India
The authority found itself unable to meet the agreed-upon electricity supply to India, which triggered the penalty.
kathmandu : Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is now required to pay a fine of NPR 100 million to India after failing to export electricity as per the agreement.
The disruption in electricity exports occurred due to a significant drop in power generation following heavy rainfall and flooding on September 26 and 27.
The authority found itself unable to meet the agreed-upon electricity supply to India, which triggered the penalty.
On the day NEA committed to selling 900 MW of electricity via the Indian Energy Exchange, floods and landslides caused severe damage to more than 30 hydropower plants and projects, leading to a substantial reduction in electricity production.
