Nepal Gaining International Recognition Through Sports: Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu | Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed that Nepal is gradually gaining recognition on the international stage through its achievements in sports. Speaking at the 61st anniversary celebration of the National Sports Council today, he highlighted the growing success of Nepalese athletes in international arenas.

He particularly noted the bronze medal win by Palisa Govardhan at the Paralympics, calling it a significant milestone for Nepal's sports sector. Prime Minister Oli also assured that the Rs. 6.5 million reward promised to Palisa will be handed over soon, without any tax deductions. He emphasized that the days of announcing prizes but failing to deliver them are over.

"I have always said that Nepalese athletes perform exceptionally when given the opportunity. We must continue to set new records and break old ones," said Oli, wishing all athletes future success. As the patron of the National Sports Council, he urged that Japan's Olympic Games and the Asian Games should now be the primary focus, with proper training and preparation.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of having strong self-confidence in any competition, noting that victory is possible if athletes play with determination until the final moment. He stressed that sports organizations should operate democratically and condemned the practice of holding positions for personal gain rather than promoting institutional development and growth.

During the event, Prime Minister Oli also honored athletes who achieved excellence in various sports this year.
