Shraddha Kapoor Breaks Shah Rukh Khan's Record at Box Office
The film is now approaching the 600 crore mark, a level no other Bollywood film has crossed so far.
kathmandu | Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor and actor Rajkummar Rao's film Stree 2 has set a new milestone at the Indian box office, breaking the record held by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan. Over the fifth weekend, Stree 2 collected 16 crore between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Monday, the film added another 3.17 crore, and on Tuesday, 2.65 crore. This brings its total box office earnings in India to 586 crore.
With this, Stree 2 has become the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever, surpassing Jawan, which previously held the title with 584 crore. What’s impressive is that Stree 2 managed to achieve this in just 34 days, while Jawan took seven weeks to reach that figure. The film is now approaching the 600 crore mark, a level no other Bollywood film has crossed so far.
So far, action-packed films were considered to be the biggest earners in Bollywood. Before Stree 2, films like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and Animal had crossed the 500 crore mark. However, Stree 2, a horror-comedy, is on the verge of entering the 600 crore club, breaking the trend of action films dominating the box office.
In 2017, the Telugu film Baahubali 2 set the benchmark by earning 500 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film. It took Bollywood six years to break this record, with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan doing so in 2023. Later that same year, his other film Jawan set a new record, but Stree 2 has now taken the lead.
The success of Stree 2 shows that even genres like horror-comedy can triumph at the box office, paving the way for more diverse storytelling in Bollywood.
