Somy Ali: Aishwarya Was the Reason for My Breakup with Salman

kathmandu | Somy Ali has revealed that Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s love story began on the sets of the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Before this, Salman was in a relationship with Somy. However, when Somy learned about Salman’s growing connection with Aishwarya, she decided it was best to end their relationship.

In an interview with Different medias, “The shooting of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was ongoing. One day, I called Salman, but he didn’t answer. So, I called the film’s director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who told me, ‘Salman is busy shooting and can’t speak to you right now.’”

Somy recalled how strange this made her feel. “I asked him, ‘If Salman is giving a shot, why aren’t you directing? Why are you answering my call?’” she said.

Somy further explained that Aishwarya started coming to Salman’s gym, which was in the same Galaxy Apartments where she lived with Salman. “I was staying with Salman on the ground floor of Galaxy Apartments, where our gym was located,” she said. “I was hearing about their relationship from people who worked with him. In my heart, I knew their bond would only grow deeper. I also knew it was time for me to leave.”

Her statements align with earlier reports from Media, which mentioned Salman and Aishwarya getting close on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Their onscreen chemistry in the film was highly praised. However, their relationship didn’t last, and in 2001, the two decided to part ways.

After breaking up with Salman, Aishwarya went on to marry actor Abhishek Bachchan on 20th April 2007.
