Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India Passes Away

Kathmandu | Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has passed away at the age of 72. He died on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
The CPI(M) confirmed the news on social media, posting, "Our beloved comrade, General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, passed away today at AIIMS. Lal Salaam, Comrade Sitaram Yechury!"
Yechury had been undergoing treatment in the ICU, where he was admitted due to a severe respiratory infection.
Born on August 12, 1952, in Chennai, Yechury had been serving as the General Secretary of the CPI(M) since 2015. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha for 12 years, from 2005 to 2017.
Yechury was a frequent visitor to Nepal and maintained close ties with leaders there. His death marks a significant loss for the party and the broader communist movement in India.
