Foreign Minister Rana Appeals to Global Community for Bipin Joshi’s Release

kathmandu | Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, currently attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, has urged the international community to assist in the safe release of Nepali youth, Bipin Joshi.

During her address at the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in New York on Monday, Minister Rana called for global attention and cooperation in securing Joshi's release. She expressed Nepal’s deep concern and eagerness to welcome Joshi back home safely, stressing the need for international support.

Joshi was abducted by Hamas following a terrorist attack in Israel in October, where ten Nepali nationals tragically lost their lives. The violent assault also claimed many other innocent victims. Nepal has consistently condemned the attack and called for Joshi’s safe return, as reiterated by Minister Rana in her speech.

In her address, Minister Rana also highlighted the pressing need for collective global efforts to establish peace. She pointed out that many parts of the world are still experiencing war, rebellion, and violence under various pretexts, emphasising the necessity for international collaboration to end such conflicts and promote peace.

“I believe that since World War II, we are witnessing an increase in conflicts across various regions. We are standing at one of the most challenging moments in history, and the protection of civilians from armed conflict must remain a top priority,” she said.

Minister Rana further noted that despite global efforts, countries have struggled to halt ongoing conflicts, resolve issues caused by wars, and restore peace and order among citizens. She also highlighted the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Convention, emphasising that its core principles to protect civilians are being overlooked or misinterpreted in many instances.

“This situation must come to an end soon, and we must all move forward with peaceful coexistence,” she concluded.
