Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon Claim 15 More Lives, Raising Fears of a ‘Second Gaza’
Israel has warned civilians to stay away from conflict areas, issuing similar advisories in Gaza.
Kathmandu. Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed 15 more people, according to the country's health ministry. The attack took place in the central Lebanese city of Joun, where seven others were also injured.
This brings the death toll from Israeli attacks in Lebanon to 573.
Earlier, Hezbollah had fired dozens of missiles at two Israeli military sites, prompting Israel to intensify its strikes on southern Lebanon. The recent incidents are reminiscent of similar events from last year.
Israel has warned civilians to stay away from conflict areas, issuing similar advisories in Gaza. Israel blames Hezbollah, much like it accuses Hamas of using civilians as human shields.
Critics argue that Israel has not given sufficient warning to civilians, leaving families with little time to evacuate. International law demands the protection of civilians and prohibits indiscriminate or disproportionate use of force.
Hezbollah’s attacks have also targeted residential areas in Israel, violating laws meant to protect civilians. They have also targeted Israeli military forces.
Israel, along with the US and UK, classifies Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation. Israel claims its military operates within the rules of engagement, although many around the world have condemned its actions in Gaza.
As the conflict at the border escalates, the situation is becoming increasingly serious.
