NRNA Begins Fundraising for Flood Victims

Kathmandu – In response to the recent natural disaster caused by three days of continuous rainfall, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has begun collecting donations for flood victims.

Under the leadership of Dr. Badri KC, NRNA issued a press release on Sunday afternoon, urging people both in Nepal and abroad to contribute.

"In this moment of crisis, we appeal to all non-resident Nepalis around the world, as well as international and national coordination councils, to extend their help as soon as possible," said the statement, signed by Dr. Hemraj Sharma, Vice President and head of the Welfare Department. "We also request everyone to follow safety guidelines and stay alert, as many areas have been affected by floods, landslides, and erosion due to continuous rain."

The association has also provided bank account details for donations. However, NRNA has faced criticism in the past for alleged misuse of funds raised during previous disasters, such as the earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports of financial irregularities during relief distribution and reconstruction efforts have tarnished the organisation's reputation.

Internal conflicts over financial transparency, political affiliations, and leadership issues have led to divisions within NRNA. Despite these challenges, the Supreme Court recognised the executive committee led by Dr. Badri KC on 22nd July, following disputes surrounding the 11th general assembly.
