Pokhara Introduces Chinese Language Classes in 10 Community Schools
Pokhara is introducing Chinese language classes in 10 community schools to help students and locals communicate with growing numbers of Chinese tourists.
Pokhara | The Pokhara Metropolitan City is set to introduce Chinese language classes in 10 of its community schools.
This initiative follows an agreement between the Pokhara Metropolitan Office and the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.Mayor Dhanraj Acharya shared that the classes will be optional and open to students who are interested in learning the language. "After our agreement with the Chinese Embassy, we are launching Chinese language classes in 10 schools.
These will be supplementary classes, and only students who wish to learn will be able to participate," said Mayor Acharya.The agreement between the Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Chinese Embassy was signed three months ago, and 10 volunteer language instructors have already arrived from China to begin teaching. Students from grades 9 to 12 will be eligible to take part in these classes.
The selected schools include Pardi Secondary School, Bal Mandir Secondary School in Nadipur, Janaprakash Secondary School in Bhandardhik, Chhorepatan Secondary School, Laxmi Adarsha Secondary School in Sisuwa, Gauri Shankar Secondary School in Hemja, Bishnu Paduka Secondary School in Hemja, Rastriya Secondary School in Tudikhel, Laxmi Secondary School in Arghau, and Janapriya Secondary School in Simlachaur."Our aim is to equip students, local businesses, and tourist guides with language skills, especially to help communicate with the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting Pokhara.
We are also in talks with other embassies to offer French and Spanish language classes in the future," the mayor added.
The Chinese language classes will be held in small groups, with 20 to 30 students per group, and will be conducted in the students’ free time. Instruction will be in English, serving as the medium of instruction for the Chinese lessons.
Classes are set to start on 11th September.With the increase in foreign tourists to the region, Pokhara is hoping that these new language skills will help enhance the city's tourism services and strengthen cultural exchanges.
