Revolutionary Student Wing’s Closed Session Postponed After Chair-Throwing Incident

Kathmandu: The closed session of the student wing of the CPN (Maoist Centre), known as Akhil (Revolutionary), has been postponed after a chair-throwing incident disrupted the meeting.

The incident occurred on Monday during the ongoing conference in Kirtipur. The dispute arose between two factions over whether to impose an age limit for leadership positions. As the disagreement escalated, chairs were thrown, forcing the suspension of the session.

Though the meeting was initially rescheduled for Wednesday, the tensions persisted, leading the chairing committee to release a statement announcing that the closed session will now resume on Thursday, 3rd October at 10 AM.

On Monday, former vice-president of Akhil (Revolutionary), Tukman Mahara, protested the age limit by brandishing a khukuri (traditional Nepali knife). Mahara, who is the son of former Lumbini Province Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara, is a candidate for the presidency of the student wing. The controversy centres on whether the age limit should be set at 28, 30, or 32 years for leadership roles.

Earlier, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had instructed members to resolve the issue through voting, which had led to the commencement of the session before the disruption.
