Kathmandu. A generous family from Khandbari has donated NPR 5 million to the Tejratna Eye Treatment Centre, a community-run hospital. The five brothers of Sohan Kumar Shrestha handed over the cheque on Sunday in memory of their late parents.
The donation is specifically aimed at providing treatment for the poor, underprivileged, and marginalised communities. Ananta Kumar Ghauli, Chairman of the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, announced that the funds will be placed in an endowment, with the interest used to treat eye patients who cannot afford care.
The Tejratna Eye Treatment Centre sees around 4,000 patients annually, and more than 400 free cataract surgeries are performed every year. Previously, the Shrestha family had donated over 6 ropanis of land for the construction of the hospital.
In addition to eye care, the centre also provides treatment for ear-related issues.
