Nepali Film 'Gunyu Cholo' Selected for Prestigious U.S. Film Market

Kathmandu: Nepali film Gunyu Cholo, starring Nazir Hussain, has been selected for the esteemed Tasveer Film Market in Seattle, USA. Directed by Samundra Bhatt, the film tells the story of a transgender woman, making it a bold and significant step for Nepali cinema. The Tasveer Film Market will take place from October 15 to 18, with major studios like Amazon MGM, HBO, and Blumhouse participating.

The festival aims to support South Asian filmmakers by providing resources for film development and distribution. Rita Meher, founder of the Tasveer Film Festival, views this as a major opportunity for South Asian films, even considering it a stepping stone to the Oscars.

Gunyu Cholo is notable for its portrayal of a transgender character by Nazir Hussain, a challenging role in the Nepali film industry. The movie also features performances by Sanchita Luintel, Sushil Sitoula, and others. International distribution rights have been secured by Buffalo 8, a U.S. production company.

The post-production work, including editing, sound, and background music, was completed in Hollywood style, with music by Marcello de Francisci and vocals from Lisa Gerrard. This collaboration between Nepali and Hollywood production houses marks an important milestone for the country's film industry.

Following its festival circuit, the film will be released in Nepal.
