Police Inform Speaker About Rabi Lamichhane’s Arrest
The letter states, “In accordance with the Kaski District Court's arrest warrant dated 2 Kartik 2081, Rabi Lamichhane has been arrested as part of an investigation into a criminal case.
Kathmandu – The police have informed Speaker Devraj Ghimire about the arrest of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and Member of Parliament, Rabi Lamichhane.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shyam Babu Oliya, the chief of Kaski District Police Office, sent a formal letter to the Speaker on Friday to notify him of Lamichhane’s arrest.
The letter states, “In accordance with the Kaski District Court's arrest warrant dated 2 Kartik 2081, Rabi Lamichhane has been arrested as part of an investigation into a criminal case. As he is an elected Member of Parliament representing Chitwan-2, this notice is submitted to the Honourable Speaker as per Clause 103(6) of the Constitution of Nepal 2072.”
Lamichhane was arrested on Friday evening from his party office in Banasthali after the court allowed an investigation into charges related to fraud and organised crime, as defined by the Cooperative Act.
Following the arrest, police have stated that Lamichhane will be taken to Pokhara by road later today.
