Kathmandu. Former DIG and ex-director of Gorkha Media Pvt. Ltd., Chhabilal Joshi, who was arrested for alleged embezzlement of cooperative funds, will remain in police custody for an additional seven days, as approved by the court.

Joshi was arrested on September 22 in Shankhamul, Kathmandu, and taken to Pokhara the same day. He was presented in court on September 23, where a five-day detention was initially granted for investigation.

The police requested an additional 10 days to continue their investigation, but the District Court in Kaski has granted a seven-day extension, according to Kaski Police Chief, SP Mohan Thapa.

During his statement to the police, Joshi claimed that he had no account or signature in the Surdarsan Cooperative in Pokhara, led by Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, and denied any involvement. However, he stated that he fell victim to wrong associations at Gorkha Media.

A parliamentary investigation committee had recommended action against Joshi, accusing him of being involved in the embezzlement of over 650 million rupees from various cooperatives through Gorkha Media.

Joshi’s arrest is part of the ongoing enforcement of the committee's findings.
