Government's Lack of Preparedness Leads to Major Loss, Urgent Action Needed: Prachanda

Kathmandu – Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, the Chairman of Nepal's CPN (Maoist Centre), has criticised the government for not preparing adequately despite warnings of impending disaster, which has led to significant losses.

During his visit to flood-affected areas, Prachanda urged the government to take the issues of relief, rescue, and rehabilitation seriously. He expressed his concern, saying, "Weather experts had already predicted heavy rainfall in the coming days. I had informed the government, both as a party leader and in consultation with opposition leaders, that we need to stay prepared to prevent major damage. However, the government showed no signs of readiness."

Despite the government's shortcomings, he emphasised the need for unity in addressing the crisis. “Whatever mistakes the government has made, we must now come together to solve the problems of those affected,” he added.

Prachanda urged the government to work urgently on relief, rescue operations, rehabilitation, and medical treatment for the injured, stating, "I am not here to blame anyone. We need to collectively tend to the wounds of those affected. The government must now act at a war level to support the victims."

He also shared that all leaders and workers of his party are already involved in relief and rescue efforts. Additionally, party MPs and provincial MPs have committed to donating 10 days’ worth of their salaries to the relief fund. He encouraged local authorities to provide support as per their capacity.
