NEPSE Index Drops by 50 Points, Trading Volume Improves

Kathmandu | The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 50.73 points, or 1.88%, closing at 2,637.79. After experiencing a rise on the last trading day of last week, the market could not sustain the momentum and dropped again today.

Shares of 324 companies were traded today, with 24.8 million shares changing hands across 119,739 transactions, amounting to a total turnover of NPR 10.33 billion. This marks the highest trading volume in the past seven days.

Significant declines were observed in the Finance and Hotel & Tourism sub-indices, with Finance falling by 3.53% and Hotel & Tourism by 3.68%. The Banking sector saw a 0.93% drop, Development Banks fell by 2.51%, Hydropower by 1.48%, Investment by 2.80%, and Life Insurance by 2.74%.

Other sectors also recorded losses, with Manufacturing and Processing dropping by 1.79%, Microfinance by 1.88%, Mutual Funds by 1.61%, Non-life Insurance by 2.16%, and Trading by 0.90%. The "Others" group declined by 2.23%.

Out of the traded stocks, the prices of 219 companies decreased, while only 24 saw gains. River Falls Power Limited, Himalayan Hydropower Limited, and Rawa Energy Development Limited hit positive circuit breakers, while Three Star Hydropower Limited hit a negative circuit breaker.

In terms of trading volume, CEEDB Hydropower Development Company Limited led with NPR 643.8 million in shares traded, while Singati Hydro Energy Limited saw the highest number of shares traded, with 934,578 shares exchanged.
