Kathmandu - Police have detained cooperative victims who were protesting against Rabi Lamichhane, the leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Member of Parliament for Chitwan-3.
The protest took place on Saturday during an event in Chitwan. Victims of the Sahara Cooperative arrived at the event with banners, shouting slogans. As they reached Lions Chowk in Narayangadh, police dispersed them.
Later, some of the cooperative victims managed to reach the event venue, where police detained them outside. The protesters claim they were only trying to hold a peaceful demonstration and submit a petition, but instead were met with stone pelting from inside the venue.
Shalikram Duwadi, coordinator of the Sahara Cooperative Victims Struggle Committee, stated that when they tried to inform Lamichhane about their grievances, they were instead faced with interference.
Duwadi also mentioned that they were trying to raise questions about the Rs 650 million sent to Gorkha Media from Sahara Cooperative, and whether Lamichhane was involved in the 15% share. Suddenly, stones and bottles were thrown at the victims from inside the event.
