Vice Chairperson Ghimire: Focus on Boosting Agricultural Production to Replace Imports

Kathmandu. Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, has emphasised that the government must prioritise increasing agricultural production and replacing imports.

While visiting the Provincial Agricultural Research Centre in Tarahara on Friday and Saturday, she highlighted the need to address the rising imports by boosting domestic agricultural output.

Ghimire expressed that Nepal has great potential to increase agricultural production but continues to rely heavily on imports, which she described as unfortunate. She stressed the need for concrete plans and programmes to enhance all types of agricultural production.

“There is potential for growing agriculture in Nepal, but increasing production and replacing imports remain significant challenges,” she said. “If we can increase the production of food grains, fruits, milk, and meat, the trade deficit will decrease significantly.”

She further added that all levels of government should focus on replacing agricultural imports and increasing exports.
